LETTER 2: DEAR PERSON DEALING WITH COMPARISON

Dear friend dealing with comparison,

This letter was meant to find you. No matter how you found this letter I truly believe YOU were meant to be reading THIS today.

Soo I have something important to preface. I decided to create this platform to talk about personal growth vulnerability, and positivity. I didn’t create VESDí planning to talk about God, but I also wasn’t trying to deliberately not talk about God.

You see, I realize that not everyone is on the same faith journey that I am. Some may be full fledged Jesus people, and others  may not be believers at all.

But the truth is that me showing up authentically isn’t possible without Him in it.

SOOOOOO  let’s get into this letter no matter where you are in your faith journey.

OKAY FRIEND,

This letter could be turned into a whole chapter of a book (maybe one day). But for now, I’d like to tell you that I was introduced to something very harmful at a very young age of my life. That is, comparison.

Yes, ever since I was  young I have dealt with something called “comparing myself to others.”

Sound familiar?

Some seasons of your life might be better than others. Some days you might be feeling like “hey, I know my worth and there is NO stopping me.” And other days you might be feeling like, “wow, I feel so inferior because of this random stranger who just passed me in the street.”

Sound familiar?

Comparison sucks. And here’s the thing. Sometimes you can muster up the strength to talk yourself out of comparing you to some random stranger you see on the internet. Other times your parents can remind you of how truly wonderful you are. Some days someone can give you the most flattering compliment that makes you feel like you are on top of the world.

You can try to  remind yourself of your worth. You can have your parents encourage you that you’re enough. A friend can give you the complement of your lifetime.

However, words and affirmations from others and even yourself are always fleeting. They stick and resonate for a day at best.

If your friends, your family, your person and even yourself can’t fight off this comparison trap inside of you then what or who else can?

My friend, the only one who can truly show you how wonderful you are is GOD.

So, what is it that God says about YOU?

If you are like me and you struggle with the comparison trap- ask God and He will tell you what HE says about you.

I was sitting on the beach the other day and I was feeling trapped by this whole comparison thing.

Yo- imma be honest. Someone needs to hear it. I was talking to God and I heard this voice come to me, “I made you before you were even born and I made you unique in over 3000 ways, and for you to be comparing yourself to others is holding you back from something I created YOU to do.”

I’m not just stating that for a good blog post. I truly heard it and I know someone else needs to hear it today. Whether that voice was from God or from deep inside of me, the message is that God made you uniquely YOU in over 3000 ways.

Ask him to show you some of those ways, my friend.

The God of the universe has something to say about YOU.

Imagine an artist who just made an amazing painting. Anyone who passes by this painting can say something about it. There can be many different interpretations of the art. There can even be different biddings on how much this masterpiece is worth. But in the end, it’s the artist who has the final say in what the painting really means and how much it should be worth.

And my friend, in this situation God is the perfect artist and YOU are His masterpiece. He has the final say in who you are. And as far as your worth? He has already paid the biggest price for you, his masterpiece. The price you might ask? It’s that he sent His only Son.

Want to know what God has to say about you and don’t know where to start? Lauren Diagle says it, or I guess sings it, best in her song, “You Say.”

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing

You say I am strong when I think I am weak

And You say I am held when I am falling short

And when I don’t belong, oh, You say I am Yours

HELLO! It’s just about time that you and I started asking God who we are. Not asking our instagram followers, friends or even ourselves.

You are loved, treasured and worth it.

Love Always,

Avery
